Our Coaches
Greg Patton
Former Boise State University Men’s Tennis Coach. Coach Patton had the most wins for any active coach in NCAA Division 1 tennis when he retired from college coaching in 2018. His enthusiasm and passion for tennis, sport and life has made him a sought after speaker not only in the world of tennis but for businesses and organizations around the nation.
Patton also coached the junior national team from 1984-87 leading many junior players to top five world rankings. At the junior level, Patton helped groom some of the finest tennis players America has had to offer including Pete Sampras, Jim Courier, Michael Chang, David Wheaton, and Malavai Washington.
Jeff Northam
Whitman College Men’s tennis coach. Coach Northam is the winningest coach in Whitman history. His teams won 13 straight NWC titles and has been to 14 consecutive NCAA Division 3 team tournaments. In 2018 his team made the Elite 8 at the NCAA III national tournament. He has been named NWC Coach of the Year 11 times and has twice been named ITA Region.
John Hein
Whitman College Women’s tennis coach. Coach Hein has led the Whitman Women to 3 Northwest Conference Championships and 3 more NWC Tournament Championships for 6 NCAA appearances in the past 7 seasons. A 4 time NWC Coach of the Year and ITA Regional Coach of the Year, John’s teams have also won the ITA Community Service and Outreach Award 2 times. Since his arrival in 2008, Whitman players have earned 21 All-American selections, ITA Most Improved Player, and the Arthur Ashe award for Leadership and Sportsmanship.
Tom Sawatzki
The camp guru! Coach Tom has been involved in the Walla Walla industry since the “early years”. Tom spends time on court coaching and organizes the “flow” of the camp … organizing the dinners, wine tastings, and special events.
